Monument of Episkopi

Episkopi has a fascinating story to tell. It is a Christian church that was created by the conversion of an ancient Roman mausoleum into a church in the 17th century.

In 2017, the restoration of the church began and during the works, a female tomb from the 2nd or 3rd century BC was discovered in a crypt under the church, which also included jewelry. The funerary epigram found mentions the name "Neiko". She is most likely the person for whom the mausoleum was originally built. The monument opened to the public in 2022.

‘Sikinos Travel’ organises guided tours in Greek and in English (duration: ~1,5h, cost: ~€20 per person incl. transportation to/from the monument).
